Artist's Statement

Tropical Exposures is dedicated to the life and light of living in Hawaii. From honu to hula, Tropical Exposures attempts to capture, through digital photography and the written word, the aloha spirit and life in paradise.

With this in mind, for me, a good photograph is simply one that shows the viewer something they have never seen before, or takes them to a place they may never be able to visit.

In a previous life, living on Puget Sound, I was fortunate enough to drop anchor in what I believe is one of the world's most beautiful areas.  Now, living in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, where the light is so wonderful, the people so loving, I'm enjoying capturing the island's beauty and it's wonderful culture.

I especially hope you enjoy the Daybook link. Inspired by "The Daybooks of Edward Weston", the link takes you to exposures that I've taken time to write about. The image is accompanied by musing regarding the work. In fact, this site is based on the belief that a photograph may be worth a thousand words, but a thousand words can set the stage, provide personal insights, or simply tell "the rest of the story". Or as they call it here in Hawaii, "Talk Story."

If you are planning a trip to Hawaii, and need a good photographer to follow you around to capture your adventure, send me a note and we can work something out.

Pricing (Giclee Prints)

Giclee (pronounced zhee-clay) reproductions were originally developed in 1989 as a digital method of fine art printing. The word giclee is French for “a spray or jet of liquid.” The digital images of an original work are stored in a computer and sent directly to a high resolution ink jet printer. All images are produced on Epson papers are produced by an Epson 2200 printer with Epson Archival UltraChrome pigment inks. UltraChrome pigments inks retain the advantage of high resistance to fading from water, light and air contaminates. Epson UltraChrome inks on Epson premium papers have a high Lightfast rating from Wilhelm Image Research of 45 years. Epson 2200 archival prints far exceed the quality of most digital prints using dye based inks. Frames are metal with a satin black finish.
